We are pop culture purveyors!
Funko is a pop culture licensed-focused company located in Everett, Washington.
Originally founded as a bobblehead company in 1998 by Mike Becker, the goal was to focus on low-tech, nostalgia-themed toys. Funko’s first Wacky Wobbler sold in stores was the restaurant advertising icon Big Boy.
Spinning off from Wacky Wobblers, Funko launched a variety of product lines, including Wacky Wisecracks, Handy Dandy Puppets, Peek-a-Boo Pop Ups, Spastik Plastik, Fantastik Plastik, Bobble Breeze, and Funkotronics - among others.
In 2005, Becker sold Funko to its current owner, Brian Mariotti, who set his sights toward rapid growth in the licensed gift and novelty world.
The first generation of Pop!s – then called Funko Force 2.0 – debuted at SDCC 2010. The characters included a blue Batman, metallic blue Batman, metallic Black Batgirl, and glow-in-the-dark Green Lantern, and were packaged in plastic clamshells. Pop!s as they are known today were formally introduced shortly thereafter, at New York Toy Fair in 2011.
Since then, the company has expanded rapidly in both product lines and distribution. Funko’s Pop! Vinyl is the number one stylized vinyl collectible in the world. Funko currently holds more than 150 licenses including, but not limited to:
- DC Comics
- Sony Pictures Entertainment
- Paramount Pictures
- Warner Bros.
- NBC Universal
- Cartoon Network
- 2K Games
- Bethesda Games
- And more!
Through the years, at least one thing has stayed the same: If it ain’t Funko, it ain’t fun!
